LCD Soundsystem vs Daft Punk: A Dance Party Tribute – Preview

Where: The Blue Note
When:
November 21, doors/show at 10 p.m.
Tickets:
Free!
Featuring:
DJ Jen Ha

Not everything in the music world always turns out right (unless you’re Beyoncé.)

People make bad songs, bands get in fights, the Grammy’s go to the wrong person (ahem . . . Macklemore), repulsive videos are plastered across the internet, worse – they’re taken off the TV channel that was meant for music videos, etc.

But, there are few things sadder than the the unpredictability of the industry. One day you’re a hit band, the next you’re breaking up. One day you’re announcing a new album, the next you’re AWOL and fans are sitting impatiently waiting for you to reappear.

Well, at least that’s the case with LCD Soundsystem and those guys they listen to in their basements (hint: it’s Daft Punk.)

The world was saddened by the LCD sudden break-up and farewell concert in 2011 and let’s be honest, no one knows what’s going on with Daft Punk – ever.

But cry no more, electronic/house/dance music lovers! The Blue Note has your solution. A good one.

When life get’s you down, sometimes you just have to dance it out (think Christina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy style.) Thanks to DJ Jen Ha and these two wonderful groups for their great music, we now present you a night of originals and remixes in their honor plus other related jams for your moving pleasure!

So bring your best moves, even if they’re sort of weird.

Foster the People: Show Preview

Where: 9th Street, Between Walnut and Broadway
When:
October 8, doors at 7
Tickets:
$30
Openers: Soko

You know what’s better than a concert? A Foster the People concert, on a Wednesday, in the middle of the street.

TOTAL ANARCHY. NO RULES.

Okay, not really. But you should be excited for a number of reasons and hurry up and snag some tickets before you miss the main music event of the season.

Here’s some persuasion (like you even need it.)

1. They will probably, maybe, perhaps sing that one song you know. You know, that one about the running and the guns and whatever. They might even play it last because emphasis (They will play it last because emphasis.)

2. This one time, their song “Helena Beat” was featured in 21 Jump Street. This might be the closest you’ll ever get to Channing Tatum.

3. Despite having just debuted their second album, Supermodel, this year, they’ll definitely play a large amount of Torches. Think, “Houdini,” “Life on the Nickel,” “Call It What You Want,” and more.

4. Did I mention it was in the street on a Wednesday? You get the chance take to the streets of CoMo with your peers, dance throughout the sidewalks you normally drag your sad, heavy backpack down, and run rampant as sweet, sweet music blares through the speakers and Mark Foster dances adorably back and forth down the stage. We are #blessed.

5. I mean, just look at them. They’re perfect.

So, you know, time to get pumped up.

Ben Rector: Show Preview

Where: The Blue Note
When:
October 2, doors at 7 pm
Ticket cost:
$20
Openers: Jon McLaughlin

Attention romantics of Columbia: Ben Rector is back and he’s going to steal your heart. No seriously, the dude’s songs will make you laugh, cry and sell your soul for love after two lines.

The Nashville native, pop rock artist will be gracing the stage once again tomorrow night with opener Jon McLaughlin. His fifth album, The Walking in Between debuted last year at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 and he has sold over 2 million singles.

These are great stats, but I know what you’re thinking. “Where’s the good stuff, Natalie?” “Why haven’t you mentioned that he nicknamed his four piece band ‘Bennie & the Jets’ or how he wrote his own website bio because he is a humble angle?”

Well, I just did, but to prepare you for the upcoming show, here are five of his most swoon-worthy lyrics to ready your already fast-beating heart.

1. “I’ll carry your burdens and be the wind at your back. I wanna spend my forever – forever like that.” – “Forever Like That”

2. “But when I’m with you I’m no longer wandering. And when I’m with you, I swear I can breathe.
When I’m with you, I know who I am and who I want to be.” – “When I’m With You”

3. ” There are way too many love songs. And I think they’ve got it all wrong. Cause life is not the mountain tops. It’s the walking in between. And I like you walking next to me.” – “I Like You”

4. “So darling, don’t you worry. I’ll be there before you can close your eyes. I’ll be there to kiss my baby and dance with you until the morning light.” – “Dance With Me Baby”

5. “Loving you is elementary. It’s easier than one two three. I passed school so consequently. It’s coming so naturally.” – “Loving You Is Easy”
