T/F Film Fest comes to the Note

It’s the most wonderful time of the year because True/False Film Festival is here! The Blue Note and Rose Music Hall are lucky enough to be part of the magic and we’re beyond excited for what T/F has to bring this year.

Every year, downtown Columbia is graced with T/F’s unique and eye-catching art installations, happy volunteers, powerful musical performances, and of course, the brilliant, eye-opening, perspective-altering documentaries the festival is known for.

The whole experience can be a little overwhelming and we don’t want you to experience any FOMO so we outlined three events that will be happening at The Blue Note and Rose that you absolutely do not want to miss.

T/F Screening: Long Strange Trip at The Blue Note

Date: Thursday, March 2

Time: Doors at 6:30 p.m.| Film at 7:15

Tickets: Click here.

Long Strange Trip: The Untold Story of the Grateful Dead is an inside look at the never-before-seen side of the legendary and iconic band, The Grateful Dead. This film will take you on an emotional journey that spans from the band’s acid-test experiments, to a rare look at Jerry Garcia’s past and his transformation by psychedelics. This doc includes the “unearthing of rare film footage, audio recordings, photos and live tracks,” and is described as making a “mind-expanding case for the band as a utopian, cosmic phenomenon.” Director Amir Bar-Lev spent 15 years creating this legendary film that is said “to make even non believers grateful.” The run time is 240 minutes long including a 20 minute intermission. If you think that sounds like a long time, you’re clearly not very familiar with The Grateful Dead. In a recent article, Rolling Stone magazine said “Anyone who walked in thinking there was no more left to be said exited the theater after midnight thinking that four hours was way too short.” Oh and did we mention there will be a full bar? So the longer the film, the longer the party! (That’s how we see it at least.) So all Deadheads and non-believers alike, come to Note and unite for an experience and a night you won’t forget.

T/F Friday Night After Party: MNDR DJ set at The Blue Note.

Date: Friday, March 3

Time: 11 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Tickets: $6 GA | Free for Super/Silver, Busker Band, $3 Lux & Juggernaut passholders.

If there is one thing to know about the True False Film Fest, it’s that the fun never ends. There comes a point in the day when the film screenings will end but that means it’s time for the party to begin. MNDR will light up the stage of The Blue Note with her electro-pop sound and bass-dropping beats after the last film of the night at the Note. Good music is a staple of the festival so that means we wouldn’t provide you with anything but the best musical experience. MNDR is a master of getting in touch with the energy of the room and getting people to dance and connect with the music. If you’re not already on a mind and body high from all of the amazing films you have seen, this performance will definitely get you there!

T/F Music: Saturday Night After Party at Rose Music Hall

Date: Saturday, March 4

Time: Doors 8:30 p.m. | Show 9:30 p.m.

Tickets: $5 GA | Free for Super/Silver, Lux, Busker Band, Juggernaut passholders.

If you can’t tell by now, the two things that we love as much as T/F are good music and a good party. Rose Music Hall is the perfect venue for an even more intimate musical experience. Wind down your Saturday night of film watching and festival exploring with an amazing indie-folk-country lineup featuring The Big Sky, Max and the Martians, Very Be Careful and Jack Grelle. Spend this time meeting new people, discussing your experience at the fest and connecting with friends — all while listening to some amazing tunes. Check out this catchy, folky awesomeness by Jack Grelle!

P.S. Want cool merch so you’ll have something to remind you of this amazing experience? We’ve got you covered!

So come one, come all! This is a special experience unique to CoMo that film fanatics and directors seek out for the relaxed atmosphere it offers in the world of film festivals. There’s no place like home when it comes to T/F and we can’t wait to be a part of it!
