There’s nothing like some good ol’ folk pop on a warm Missouri night. The Blue Note was packed with Brett Dennen fans, young and old, on Thursday night. Sculptures of guitars hung from the top of the stage and from beside the stage, colored lights hung to set the mood.
When Brett Dennen walks onto the stage, you could feel the crowd release the anticipation they had been holding on to. The dancing started almost immediately, on the parts of both Dennen and the crowd. While playing the acoustic guitar strung across his chest, Dennen shimmied his shoulders and twisted his hips in some very awkward but charming dance moves.
While playing his new single, “Wild Child” off his latest album, Smoke and Mirrors, the crowd kept the rhythm by clapping and singing along with the words: “You can hold me tighter if you wanna, if you wanna hold me tonight” as Dennen wrapped himself in his own arms.
It was a folk show that you could dance to, and what could be better than that?
