Once upon a time, the Polar Vortex screwed us over. And then it never really let go.
When your toes are numb, your eyeballs feel like they have ice damage and your face is red, blotchy and ugly, you need an extra boost to feel like the world is an okay place.
So, take a minute, lean back, close your eyes,* and listen to these songs that will warm your very soul and help you pretend that the sun is still alive and well.
*But also, don’t close your eyes because these are all videos.
THE OFFICIAL “SCREW YOU, OLD MAN WINTER” PLAYLIST:
1. “Heatwave” by Martha & the Vandellas
1 and a half. “Lounge Medley” from Sister Act
REMEMBER THIS MOVIE?! This medley contains the song “Heatwave,” but it also doesn’t really have a place on this playlist. Then again, it has a place on every playlist ever. Just go with it.
2. “Hot In Herre” by Nelly
But it’s not hot in herre, so don’t take off all your clothes. Are you crazy? Layer that shit up.
3. “Sunday Sun” by Beck
Because Sunday Funday isn’t the same without a little sun, amiright?
4. “Go Outside” by Cults
“Oh, I really wanna go outside…” So do we, Cults, so do we. BTW, they’ll be at The Blue Note on Feb. 12.
5. “Man On Fire” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (Little Daylight remix)
I almost wouldn’t mind being on fire at this point. Fire burns are better than freezer burns, right?
6. “Hot Fun in the Summertime” by Sly and the Family Stone
Remember what it feels like to actually sweat?
7. “Flowers in Your Hair” by Lumineers
Remember what flowers look like? (gentle sobs)
8. “Beds are Burning” by Midnight Oil
Falling asleep on a bed of flame sounds like either Hell’s Super 8 Motel or what God sent to make up for the Polar Vortex.
9. “Blister in the Sun” by Violent Femmes
Bonus: It’s impossible not to dance to this song, so maybe you’ll warm up a little? Maybe?
10. “Disco Inferno” by The Trammps
Burn, baby, burn. Burn that mother down.
“Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince
Because OH MY GOD.
YET ANOTHER BONUS VIDEO:
“Summertime” by Aaron Carter and Baha Men
BECAUSE OH MY GOD. THIS EXISTS.
